A Resolution recognizing Fisk University’s All-American basketball player Maya Buckhanon.

WHEREAS, the talented All-American Maya Buckhanon has had an exceptional season at Fisk University averaging 19.2 points and 15.6 rebounds per game; and

 

WHEREAS, she helped Fisk reach their best finish (second place) since joining the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (“GCAC”) and the team won 19 games this season, which is their best outcome in the 21st century; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition, she accomplished 21 double-doubles this season and her high game in points was 45 which is a modern-day Fisk record, and her high rebound game was 27; and

 

WHEREAS, she ranked first in the country in defensive rebounds and third in total rebounds; and

 

WHEREAS, Buckhanon also received the GCAC Player of the Year, All-Defensive Team, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and 1st Team All Conference awards; and

 

WHEREAS, Maya Buckhanon’s accomplishment would not be possible without hard work and dedication and it is a privilege to have outstanding young women like her in our community to help influence and guide future generations; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Fisk University’s Maya Buckhanon and extend best wishes as she continues in her journey and career.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing All-American Maya Buckhanon and wishes her continued success.

 

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
