WHEREAS, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee through Susannah Scott-Barnes’ Donor Advised Fund wishes to make a donation to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Department of Water and Sewerage, Waste Services Division, to fund The Residential Food Waste Pilot; and,

WHEREAS, a copy of the donation letter is attached hereto and incorporated herein, as set forth in Exhibit 1; and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to Metropolitan Code of Laws § 5.04.120(B), donations exceeding $5,000 may be accepted and appropriated pursuant to Resolution; and,

WHEREAS, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee informed by the work of the Nashville Food Waste Initiative wishes to fund the effort to gather data over 12 months in 750 households to continue the progress in reducing food waste in Nashville; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this donation be accepted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                          That the donation by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Department of Water and Sewerage Services, of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00), to fund The Residential Food Waste Pilot, pursuant to the donation documentation, as shown on Exhibit 1, which is attached hereto and incorporated by reference, is hereby approved.

Section 2.     That these funds are hereby appropriated to the Department of Water and Sewerage, Waste Services Division for use in The Residential Food Waste Pilot.

Section 3.                          That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution accepts a donation from The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee through Susannah Scott-Barnes Donor Advised Fund to the Department of Water and Sewerage Services in the amount of $250,000 to fund The Residential Food Waste Pilot.

 

The Residential Food Waste Pilot will allow Metro to gather data over 12 months in 750 households in diverse communities around Nashville. The data collected will help develop a plan around different aspects of food scrap collection including education, logistics, and technology needs for a successful city-wide service.
