A resolution recognizing Coach Jamaal Stewart's efforts and contributions to East Nashville High School's football program.

WHEREAS, Coach Jamaal Stewart grew up in East Nashville and played football at Stratford High School; and
WHEREAS, with over a decade of coaching experience, he took his first high school football head coaching job at East Nashville High School in the spring of 2020 where he led the team to its two best seasons in state history; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, Coach Stewart saw more than 100 students try out for the East Nashville football team, including 45 freshmen alone - more than he'd ever had in his 13 years of coaching; and
WHEREAS, having more than 100 students in a football program is remarkable, particularly because East High School has an enrollment of just over 600 students; and
WHEREAS, Coach Stewart is an exceptional leader and role model to the young men on his team; and
WHEREAS, as a coach, Coach Stewart led East High School to back-to-back state runner-up finishes, with a record of 27-11 over three seasons; and
WHEREAS, aside from coaching, he works hard to make his players feel comfortable, and often provides meals, rides, counseling and first aid care as required by his team; and
WHEREAS, Coach Stewart has recently accepted a position at Centennial High in Williamson County as the next Cougars coach; and
WHEREAS, he is held in high esteem as an effective and caring coach by his players and colleagues at East Nashville High and will be missed as he begins the next chapter of his career; and
WHEREAS, his work and commitment as a football coach has influenced many and will continue to have a positive impact on the community; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Coach Jamaal Stewart and recognize his efforts and contributions to East Nashville High's football program and extend best wishes to him as he becomes Centennial High's new coach.
