WHEREAS, antisemitism is on the rise in the United States, with the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism finding that hate crimes, including cases of antisemitism, are on the rise in many of the nation's largest metropolitan areas; and

WHEREAS, this weekend, two individuals spray-painted swastikas and hate messages on five homes in the Sylvan Park neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday afternoon, many Nashvillians joined together to remove the graffiti and speak out against these hateful acts; and

WHEREAS, other hateful events have occurred in Nashville, including a flag with a swastika, as well as white supremacist language and homophobic and transphobic slurs seen on the Chestnut Street bridge near Fort Negley earlier this month; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is and will continue to be a welcoming city to all - in Nashville, y'all means all; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville neighbors joining together to stand up against hate show the true Nashville, a welcoming place that is meant for all of us no matter who you are, what you look like, where you came from, or who and how you worship; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council requests the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission to provide recommendations and solutions to the Council for combating hate in Nashville and how to ensure that Nashville continues to be a welcoming place for all; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council condemns the antisemitic actions by these individuals in Sylvan Park as well as the rise of hate events in Nashville and across the world, calls on Nashvillians to join together to show support for the Jewish community and those other communities impacted by hate events, and requests the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission ...
