A resolution recognizing the tenth anniversary of the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center.

WHEREAS, the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center ("FEC") is celebrating ten years of service to the Nashville and Davidson County, providing free, professional financial counseling as a city service; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Greater Nashville helped to launch the Nashville FEC in 2013 and has worked with four mayoral administrations as the operational partner of choice; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville FEC has successfully served 9,500 clients and provided 28,000 free financial counseling sessions; and

WHEREAS, Nashville FEC clients have reduced their household debt by a total of $23.2 million and increased their savings by a total of $3.5 million, with an average median income of $32,000; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville FEC has worked with various partners, including Con?xion Americas, The Family Collective, Needlink, Project Return, SNAP Employment and Training, and the TN Department of Human Services to provide financial counseling for targeted, underserved populations; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville FEC has served as an expert mentor to Memphis, Jackson, Racine, WI, Roanoke, VA, Greenville, SC, and Gaithersburg, MD, helping to build a nation-wide network of free, local government backed financial counseling services; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville FEC had been led with dedicated service by two Senior Managers, Erin Akery and Sabrina Franklin, who have been with the program since its inception and have been integral to the success of FEC clients; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council joins the Nashville FEC in celebrating the opening of a new space, the return to in-person counseling, and looks towards the future of financial empowerment for years to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
