A resolution requesting that the Metropolitan Department of Codes Administration revise its Landlord Registration Form to require a landlord to provide an acknowledgement the number of unrelated persons who may live together in a single dwelling unit.

WHEREAS, in an effort to maintain and improve the quality of housing, Tennessee Code Annotated ? 66-28-101 et seq. ("Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act") requires all owners of residential rental property to register their property with the department of local government responsible for enforcing building codes; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Codes Administration established the Landlord Registration Program to enable owners to register their property by completing the Landlord Registration Form. (See, sample, attached hereto as an exhibit); and
WHEREAS, the Landlord Registration Form currently requires owners to provide contact information, including name, home address, phone number, and email address, to be used in the event of a Department of Codes Administration violation that requires correction; and
WHEREAS, in addition to this information, the Department of Codes Administration should further require an acknowledgement from landlords of the number of unrelated persons who may live together in a single dwelling unit pursuant to the Metropolitan Code of Laws; and
WHEREAS, this acknowledgment will benefit both landlord and tenants by ensuring that landlords are aware of the occupancy limitations in the Metropolitan Code of Laws.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the members of the Metropolitan Council hereby request that the Metropolitan Department of Codes Administration revise the existing Landlord Registration Form to require a landlord to provide an acknowledgement of the number of unrelated persons who may live together in a single dwelling unit.
