A resolution honoring the life and accomplishments of Nashville developer Pat Emery.

WHEREAS, influential Nashville developer and community leader Patrick G. “Pat” Emery, who worked for four decades to reshape the Nashville and surrounding region into a global hospitality and business destination, died Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the age of seventy-two; and
WHEREAS, Pat Emery was an exemplary public servant who is remembered by his colleagues and close friends as a man of great integrity and a hard worker who cared about the City of Nashville and strived to make it a better place to live and work; and
WHEREAS, Emery’s conscientious approach to design reshaped the way Middle Tennesseans live and work. He came to Nashville in 1984 and soon after built the 12-story One American Center in midtown Nashville. By the 1990s, he was CEO of EDC Corporate Real Estate Services and an influential leader of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors; and
WHEREAS, Emery envisioned Downtown Nashville’s Fifth + Broadway complex of luxury offices, apartments, shops and restaurants in 2013, when such development there was considered risky. Emery worked with Metro Nashville leaders to develop plans to attract locals and tourists alike, and in 2021, Fifth + Broadway, the massive mixed-use complex developed by a team led by Emery, opened at the site of the former 1980s convention center with the National Museum of African American Music; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Emery is also responsible for much of the now-thriving Cool Springs commercial district north of Franklin, Tennessee. As with Fifth + Broadway, Emery married upscale office and residential towers with green open spaces and restaurants in unique enclaves; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Hall Emery was formed in a partnership between Mr. Emery and Fred Hall’s Oklahoma-based Hall Capital. In 2018, Emery began work on a state-of-the-art Music Row office building called 18th & Chet, which now houses accounting firm EY, among others; and
WHEREAS, most recently, Mr. Emery worked with up-and-coming developers DeLisa and Elde Guerrier on plans for Nashville’s first theme park since Opryland USA closed in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Emery and his late wife, longtime music-industry leader Kitty Moon, established in 2016 The Kitty and Pat Emery Fund for Nashville to support The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s grants for a range of community-building projects; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council remembers the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being, reflect upon his impeccable character and commitment to Nashville and Davidson County, and express our condolences to the family upon the occasion of his passing. Nashville is better today because of Pat Emery.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life and accomplishments of influential Nashville developer and community leader Patrick G. “Pat” Emery.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
