A resolution celebrating Joyce I. Searcy upon her retirement after 51 years of service as an employee of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, in February 1971, Joyce I. Searcy was employed by the Metro Traffic Violations Bureau, which was under the jurisdiction of the Metro General Sessions Court and eventually the Circuit Court Clerks' office; and
WHEREAS, in 1976, the Metro General Sessions Court was offered a Federal Grant to create a Probation Department; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Searcy decided to take a leap of faith and applied for the assistant position, interviewed with the General Sessions Court judges, and was hired as the first assistant; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Searcy and fellow employees initially worked out of the hallway on the third floor of the Metro Courthouse until office space became available to them; and
WHEREAS, approximately two years later, the Metropolitan Government funded the Metro Probation Department as part of the Metro General Sessions Court, which has remained a part of the Courts through the present day; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Searcy served in the role of the first assistant for a few years, and in 1981 she was offered the position of administrative assistant with the Metro General Sessions Court and has worked there for forty-one years, as of August 19, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Searcy has two sons, JT, who lives in Nashville, and Scott, who is in the military and currently lives in Spain; and
WHEREAS, she has seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, but through her eyes, they are all the same; and
WHEREAS, outside of Metro, Ms. Searcy is a part of the Robinson Family and worked as a funeral assistant at Phillips Robinson Funeral Home for ten years; and
WHEREAS, she was the assistant to "Big Gale Robinson" for nineteen years and to "Little Gale Robinson" for thirty-two years; and
WHEREAS, in her spare time, Ms. Searcy enjoys playing an old slot machine at the casino, streaming a good show on Netflix, and loves the characters John Dutton and Rip featured on the show Yellowstone; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Searcy is a huge fan of the historical drama television series, Outlander, has watched the entire series a total of twelve times, and has a special appreciation for the main character James Fraser; and
WHEREAS, it is proper for the Metropolitan Council to express its enormous gratitude to Joyce I. Searcy for her many years of hard work and dedication and wish her well in her retirement and future endeavors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Joyce I. Searcy's outstanding service and dedication to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County for 51 years and congratulating her on her retirement.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
