WHEREAS, although the Fair Housing Act was passed 54 years ago making it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing, including against individuals seeking a mortgage or housing assistance, discrimination in housing still happens today; and

WHEREAS, when Nashvillians are denied equal access to housing, it fuels unequal living standards, poverty, housing instability, and much more; and

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Fair Housing Council is a Nashville-based private, non-profit organization founded in 1995 with a mission to eliminate housing discrimination in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the council works to end discrimination through education and outreach as well as the enforcement of fair housing laws; and

WHEREAS, each year, the Tennessee Fair Housing Council in partnership with the Housing Equality Alliance of Tennessee holds a Fair Housing Conference for housing providers, attorneys, real estate professionals, property managers, and advocates; and

WHEREAS, the annual conference celebrates the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, brings awareness to housing discrimination and segregation, and provides the opportunity for attendees to recommit to expanding equal access to housing; and

WHEREAS, the objective of the 2022 Fair Housing Trends Conference is to bring experts together to discuss topics, and to share information and resources that people need relating to housing rights and responsibilities, housing discrimination, and disparities in lending, appraisal, and homeownership; and

WHEREAS, this is a time for Nashville to renew its commitment to ending housing discrimination and to ensure that every person has equal access to safe, affordable housing; and

WHEREAS, fairness, inclusion, and justice in housing gives all Nashvillians a fair shot at the American dream; and
