WHEREAS, Marilyn Robinson, a tireless fighter for business equity and equality, passed away on February 25, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Robinson was a native of Memphis and came to Nashville in 1984 to work for the Nashville Minority Business Development Center where she served as executive director; and

WHEREAS, she dedicated her life to economic inclusivity and justice, and supported the creation of countless small and minority businesses. She operated the One Fund, which provided access capital to these business owners; and

WHEREAS, she also coordinated the Minority Enterprise Development Week Conference, known as MEDWeek, for over 35 years. This conference hosted notable speakers including Rev. Jesse Jackson and Maya Angelou; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Robinson pushed for the completion of disparity studies in Nashville, which were vital in the creation of the Equal Business Opportunity program of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Robinson also served in several leadership roles and membership positions with a myriad of organizations including the Nashville Electric Service, the Convention Center Commission, Leadership Nashville class of 1999, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), AAA Residential Resources, Inc., Music City (TN) Chapter of The Links Incorporated, Nashville Foundation for Women of Color, Inc., 100 Black Women Metropolitan Nashville Chapter, and many more; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Robinson was a pillar of the Nashville community and an advocate for minority owned businesses. It is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to recognize her significant impact on Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life of Nashville community leader Marilyn Robinson....
