A Resolution supporting Earth Hour 2022 on Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

WHEREAS, Earth Hour, organized by the World Wildlife Fund, is a global grassroots movement uniting people to take action on environmental issues and protect the planet; and
WHEREAS, Earth Hour was first held on March 31, 2007, in Sydney, Australia, when more than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned their lights out for one hour. Earth Hour has since grown to engage millions of supporters in more than 185 countries and territories, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide to take action for the environment, and driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the crowd; and
WHEREAS, Earth Hour is held annually on the last Saturday in March. Each year during Earth Hour, individuals, communities, and businesses make a commitment to turn their lights off for one hour in acknowledgement of climate change; and
WHEREAS, Earth Hour is especially important this year, as world leaders will come together later this year to attend a critical United Nations conference on nature and biodiversity; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council requests that Nashville landmarks such as the Historic Metropolitan Courthouse, the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge, and the Parthenon "go dark" for Earth Hour by turning off lights that are not essential for public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council further requests that Davidson County residents and businesses join the Metropolitan Government in turning off lights; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council supports Earth Hour 2022 on Saturday March 26, 2022, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and furthermore, encourages everyone to turn off lights during this time to show their support for climate action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
