A Resolution recognizing the extraordinary efforts of Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services Assistant Director John Honeysucker and his team.

body

WHEREAS, on April 6, 2021, the Metropolitan Council adopted RS2021-794 approving a Memorandum of Understanding to transfer solid waste disposal responsibilities from the Department of Public Works to the Department of Water and Sewerage Services (“Metro Water Services”); and

WHEREAS, for many years Metro Water Services has provided a support system for residents with services such as a call center, a fleet management program, external daily customer interactions, and administrative support; and

WHEREAS, it was determined that the transfer to and consolidation of services under Metro Water Services would be advantageous to the city and its residents due to Metro Water Services’ notable history of sustainability efforts including stormwater initiatives, support of the Soil and Water Conservation District, and water/sewer energy savings programs such as the reuse of biosolids gases and the installation of large-scale photovoltaic solar facilities; and

WHEREAS, Metro Water Services was prepared to accommodate the additional responsibilities and on July 1, 2021, waste services including solid waste, recycling, and beautification were transitioned to their department; and

WHEREAS, after encountering unprecedented circumstances and long periods of difficulties with the third-party contractor providing solid waste disposal services, Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services leaders and employees sought innovative solutions to solve problems and delays in service, often working extremely long hours in order to complete solid waste collection routes around the city; and

WHEREAS, Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services employees have demonstrated their extraordinary commitment to the city by working through staffing issues and unprecedented national supply chain issues; and

WHEREAS, public health and sanitation are a top priority for Metro, and the recent operational improvements would not be possible without the incredible leadership and dedication of Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services Assistant Director John Honeysucker and his team, Art Boissiere, and Sharon Smith, as well as the other dedicated employees of the Division of Waste Services; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the dedication and hard work of Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services leaders and employees to support improved prospects for future service stability in Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the extraordinary efforts of Metro Water Services Division of Waste Services Assistant Director John Honeysucker and his team.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
