A resolution recognizing David Taylor for his service on the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Zoning Appeals.

WHEREAS, on February 26, 2022, the term of Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) member David Taylor will expire; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was first appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals in 2011 by Mayor Karl Dean, and also served as Chairman for a portion of his ten years on the Board; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Birmingham-Southern College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and went on to serve as President of the National Alumni Association of Birmingham-Southern College; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor currently co-owns and operates three popular businesses he helped start in Nashville: Tribe, an upscale music video bar, restaurant, and dance club, Suzy Wong’s House of Yum, and Play Dance Bar; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2013, Mr. Taylor and his business partners expanded the Play brand into Louisville, Kentucky, and in 2021, they started “The Big Drag Bus” in Nashville, the country’s first drag-focused entertainment transportation bus; and

 

WHEREAS, before his career in the hospitality industry, Mr. Taylor was a management consultant who served colleges and universities with a primary focus on strategic planning, and organizational and process design; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor has served and chaired on many nonprofit and government boards and organizations such as NashvilleCARES Board of Directors, the Board of Governors of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the Tennessee Board Education’s Accountability Committee, the Victory Fund Campaign Board’s Nominating Committee, and the Board of the ACLU of Tennessee where he currently serves as Treasurer; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was awarded the Community Service Award from Nashville Pride in 2003, and in 2010, he and his partner, Michael Ward, were honored at the HRC Dinner with the HRC Legacy Award; and

 

WHEREAS, in his spare time, Mr. Taylor enjoys creating pottery and spending time with his husband, Michael, the managing partner at Allard Ward Architects; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and thanks Mr. David Taylor for his dedication and service to Nashville on the Board of Zoning Appeals.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing David Taylor for his service to the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Zoning Appeals.

 

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
