A resolution honoring the life and service of BNA K9 Santa.

WHEREAS, K9 Officer Santa, a male German Shepherd, served with Nashville International Airport’s (BNA) Department of Public Safety from 2011 to 2015 alongside Officer Jeff Eady as part of BNA’s K9 Explosive Detection Team; and

WHEREAS, Santa received intensive training focusing on bonding, socialization, and detection at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; and

WHEREAS, K9 Officer Santa served with distinction and honor, having successfully passed all TSA annual evaluations; and

WHEREAS, Santa and Officer Eady visited the Wilson County Fair Expo as well as countless area schools to help educate the community about the important work of K9s and their role at BNA; and

WHEREAS, K9 Officer Santa passed away on June 2, 2021 and is held in high esteem and remembered as an effective, loyal, and highly valued member of the BNA team.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing BNA K9 Santa’s life and the critical role he played in keeping millions of BNA passengers, visitors, and employees safe during his tenure.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
