WHEREAS, Metro Nashville has requested that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) enter into an agreement to develop a model deployment site for large scale installation and operation of advanced transportation technologies project entitled, "CHARLOTTE AVENUE/DR. MARTIN L KING, JR BLVD TRANSIT HEADWAYS AND CONGESTION MANAGEMENT"; and,
WHEREAS, Metro Nashville has entered into a cooperative agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the FHWA to execute the project; and,
WHEREAS, Metro Nashville has elected to have the agreement administered through the Tennessee Department of Transportation to utilize state contracts and staff expertise; and,
WHEREAS, the project estimate is $3,000,000.00 in which the total cost is to be split $500,000.00 from Metro, $1,000,000.00 from TDOT, and $1,500,000.00 from the FHWA; and,
WHEREAS, this project will continue the implementation of backbone communication infrastructure for advanced traffic operations as a prerequisite for active traffic management, transit signal priority, signal performance measures as well as future connected vehicle opportunities as technology advances and expands; and,
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 12-9-104(a)(2)(b), authorizes The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to approve an agreement with TDOT by resolution; and,
