A resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of Saint Ann Church and School.

WHEREAS, Saint Ann Church and School, a thriving 600-member strong parish located on Charlotte Avenue and the oldest Diocesan school in the city is commemorating its 100th anniversary; and 

 

WHEREAS, Saint Ann Catholic Church, originally called Saint Peter’s Mission, was located on the second floor of a hardware store at the corner of 49th and Charlotte Avenue. In 1921, with the help of the Diocese of Nashville, the church moved to its present location at 51st and Charlotte Avenue and changed the name to Saint Ann Catholic Church; and

 

WHEREAS, today, Saint Ann Church continues to be a vibrant parish with a growing membership of young and mature families. In addition to Mass, the parish offers many opportunities for parishioners and visitors to pray, study, and serve together; and

 

WHEREAS, founded in 1921 by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Ann School is the oldest Diocesan school in Nashville and has been a leader in the city’s educational landscape throughout its illustrious history; and

 

WHEREAS, Saint Ann School remains a school beloved by its staff, families, and alumni, as evidenced by its numerous second, third, and even fourth-generation students, and continues to lead by example through its innovative Hand-In-Hand inclusive program for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and

 

WHEREAS, the year-long celebration culminating with Saint Ann’s Feast Day on July 26, 2021 and a Centennial Celebration on July 31, 2021, is designed to look back and to look forward, showcasing Saint Ann’s special heritage in the city of Nashville. These events will incorporate members of the Saint Ann Church and School communities, the larger West Nashville community, alumni, and many more; and

 

WHEREAS, Saint Ann Church and School will continue to radiate Christ and provide a home for generations for the next 100 years; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council go on record as recognizing the 100th anniversary of Saint Ann Church and School, and wish them many more years of continued success.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 100th anniversary of Saint Ann Church and School.

 

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
