WHEREAS, Curb Records celebrated its 60th year of business in 2024 as a leading independent music company with over 3,300 singles and albums charting on more than 6,500 Billboard charts, including over 400 number ones; and

WHEREAS, Mike Curb started his own record label in 1964 under the name of Sidewalk Records, quickly producing records for rock, pop, country, contemporary Christian, and other artists; and

WHEREAS, the company continued to grow as it was rebranded as Curb Records and merged with MGM Records in 1969; and

WHEREAS, Curb Records moved its headquarters to Nashville in 1992, where it heavily expanded its roster of country artists; and

WHEREAS, over the decades, the label recorded hit songs for artists such as Hank Williams, Jr., LeAnn Rimes, The Judds, Jo Dee Messina, Tim McGraw, Rodney Atkins, Mel Tillis, Ray Stevens, Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, Lee Brice, Wynonna, Sawyer Brown, Kelsey Hart, Dylan Scott; and

WHEREAS, Curb Records further established itself the contemporary Christian genre through the acquisition of Word Entertainment. The label has signed artists including Amy Grant, The Gaither Vocal Band, Natalie Grant, FOR KING + COUNTRY, and Francesca Battistelli; and

WHEREAS, the label continues to expand into various genres, including pop, rock, and hip-hop, and widened its business footprint by established a film division; and

WHEREAS, Curb Records and The Mike Curb Foundation have provided more than $200 million in philanthropic support in its 60 years of operation, including major donations to Belmont University and Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to recognize Curb Records for its 60 years of business and the independent label's impact on the music of Nashville and Davidson County.
