A resolution expressing support for a National Women’s Soccer League club to be awarded to Nashville.
body
WHEREAS, an ownership group, HerGame Nashville LLC, has announced its intent to pursue an expansion franchise from the National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”); and
WHEREAS, Nashville and Davidson County would be an ideal home for a women’s soccer club, as the city and region have repeatedly supported the sport on a local, state, and national level; and
WHEREAS, having a NWSL team in Nashville and Davidson County would provide a key platform to spotlight female athletes and would also encourage young girls and boys to pursue their passions in sports; and
WHEREAS, Nashville and Davidson County has grown into a burgeoning sports town, with a history of supporting a number of professional and collegiate teams; and
WHEREAS, the city has hosted the United States Women’s National Team six times in the past 21 years, setting the state record multiple times for attendance at a women’s soccer match; and
WHEREAS, Nashville and Middle Tennessee would embrace an expansion NWSL franchise and provide an environment where a team could thrive and succeed; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County to support the efforts to bring a National Women’s Soccer League franchise to Nashville and will welcome the club if and when a franchise is approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:
