A resolution honoring the life of former Member of Council Donald Majors.

WHEREAS, Donald "Don" Majors passed away on May 26, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors graduated from Cameron High School in Nashville in 1964 and married his wife of 57 years, Vallie Williamson, in 1966; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors worked for the DuPont Company for 37 years; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, he was elected to the Metropolitan Council, where he served as District 4 Councilmember for eight years representing the Parkwood area; and
WHEREAS, while on the Metro Council, Mr. Majors was instrumental in getting a new community center and park built to serve his district; and
WHEREAS, after his service with the Metro Council, Mr. Majors served on the staff of United States Congressman Jim Cooper as Constituent Service Specialist. He served in this role for 12 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors served as co-chair of the Nashville NAACP Economic Development Committee and was a strong advocate for addressing disparities in Metro Nashville's contracting with ethnic minority-owned businesses; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors believed strongly in serving his community. In addition to his public service, he served as the program director for the Parkwood Youth Baseball League; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors was also active in his church, First Baptist Church Hopewell, where he served as chairman of the trustee board for several years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Majors was a lifelong avid golfer and a member of the Nashville Duffers and Metro Seniors Golf Association; and
WHEREAS, he was also a loving husband to Vallie and a devoted father to daughter Sharon Barksdale and son Brandon Majors. He was also grandfather to Franshaska and Aubrei Barksdale and Vallie Majors Jr.; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the life of Donald Majors and his great contributions to Nashville and Davidson County.
