A Resolution commemorating the 80th anniversary of Riverside Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

WHEREAS, Riverside Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church, a direct outgrowth of the Riverside Sanitarium and Hospital, is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its founding from October 10 to 12, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Riverside Chapel traces its beginning back to March 10, 1945. As an integral part of the hospital’s legacy, which includes the school, F.H. Jenkins Preparatory School, and the Riverside School of Practical Nursing, Riverside Chapel took its place on the hospital’s African American campus; and
WHEREAS, with a combined 300 years of historical perspective, the Riverside community has unwaveringly served its congregants in the North Nashville community, as well as across the country; and
WHEREAS, through times of segregation, Jim Crow, urbanization, and the Civil Rights Movement, Riverside Chapel remains to mark this 80-year milestone, addressing the disparities and economic inequality, as well as the heartfelt spiritual needs of the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Riverside Chapel’s anniversary weekend celebration includes a special Friday night service, a Saturday worship experience, a meal and a Riverside Honors Showcase, and a Sunday morning 5K run/walk; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor the 80th anniversary of Riverside Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church for its outstanding service to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Riverside Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church on its 80th anniversary of service to the community.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
