BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Section 17.04.060 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by adding the following new sub-definition for "Sandwich board sign" within the definition for "Sign" in alphabetical order:
"Sandwich board sign" means a free standing upright temporary sign on a rigid supporting frame in the form of a triangle or an inverted V.
Section 2. That Section 17.32.040 of the Metropolitan Code is amended by inserting a new Subsection CC as follows:
CC. Sandwich board signs in non-residential districts subject to the following requirements:
a. Size. Sandwich board signs shall not exceed ten square feet per side or twenty square feet total in area;
b. Height. Sandwich board signs shall not exceed four feet in height;
c. Number. For lots containing a single business or non-residential tenant, there shall be no more than one sandwich board sign per street frontage. For lots containing multiple businesses or non-residential tenants, one sandwich board sign per business or tenant shall be permitted;
d. Location. Sandwich board signs shall be located on public or private sidewalks or plazas, outside of the required four foot pedestrian sidewalk clearance, in a manner that does not impede accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Signs shall not be placed within a vehicular travel lane, bicycle lane, or five feet of any crosswalk, intersection, or driveway entrance;
e. Hours of Display. Sandwich board signs shall only be displayed when the business or non-residential tenant they are associated with is open to the public. Signs shall be removed when such businesses or non-residential tenants are closed to the public;
f. Maintenance. Sandwich board signs shall be constructed of durable materials...
