A resolution requesting that WeGo Public Transit expand the Journey Pass program or provide a similar low- or fare-free program to residents in the Music City Construction Careers program.

WHEREAS, the Journey Pass program operated by WeGo Public Transit has shown rapid success in Nashville and Davidson County. The initiative allows eligible residents to receive fare-free bus passes for three years; and
WHEREAS, more than 12,400 eligible recipients registered for the program, and at least 2.2 million free rides have occurred through July 2026; and
WHEREAS, the eligibility for this program has recently expanded beyond those who have received social services through the Metropolitan Government to include those who receive services from the following programs: Housing Choice Voucher Program; Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program; Supplemental Nutrition assistance Program; Tennessee Assistance for Needy Families; TennCare Medicaid; and Women, Infants & Children Program; and
WHEREAS, similar low- or zero-cost programs exist for students in Nashville and Davidson County, including the strIDe program that applies to middle and high school students at Metro Nashville Public Schools and various transportation assistance programs that are offered by community colleges, colleges, and universities in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, a similar free fare program would be appropriate for the Music City Centers Construction Careers ("MC3") program, which creates pathways to middle-class building trades careers for Nashville residents; and
WHEREAS, this program serves as valuable career and technical education for many Davidson County residents, and a partnership between WeGo Public Transit and MC3 providing low or free fares would benefit these students as they work to continue their education; and
