A resolution recognizing October 8, 2025, as International Lesbian Day in Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, International Lesbian Day is held annually on October 8 and serves as day for lesbians across the world to celebrate their culture and history and raise awareness of important issues; and

WHEREAS, after approximately 10 years of marches and events, the first International Lesbian Day event was held in Melbourne, Australia on October 13, 1990; and

WHEREAS, International Lesbian Day has grown in popularity and recognition, with many countries across the world holding events to celebrate and recognize this day; and

WHEREAS, lesbians in Nashville have played vital roles in shaping the city’s cultural, artistic, educational, and civic life, contributing to a more vibrant, equitable, and inclusive community; and

WHEREAS, recognizing International Lesbian Day provides an opportunity to honor the history, celebrate the achievements, and acknowledge the ongoing challenges faced by lesbian individuals; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council recognizing October 8, 2025, as International Lesbian Day in Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing October 8, 2025, as International Lesbian Day in Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
