A resolution recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage.

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage was founded in 1974; and
WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage is a local chapter and member of the oldest service organization exclusively in the United States, the National Exchange Club; and
WHEREAS, the National Exchange Club was founded in 1911 by a group of businessmen who wanted to exchange ideas. Today, there are more then 650 local clubs and almost 20,000 members nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage seeks to serve the community through three programs - Americanism, Community Service, and Youth Programs; and
WHEREAS, this year, the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage was awarded the Outstanding Service Project Award for Youth Programs at the National Exchange Club Convention in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, the service project was the Love Luggage for Foster Children program. This was the fifth year that the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage worked to support Youth Villages of Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the organization learned that many children in the foster care system are moved unexpectedly with little preparation time. Often, these children must pack their few personal belongings into a trash bag. The Love Luggage program helps to aids the transitions for foster children by providing a suitcase on wheels packed with essential supplies like blankets, personal hygiene products, and age-appropriate activities; and
WHEREAS, this year, the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage provided 60 filled suitcases through this program at a value of over $5,000; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the 50th Anniversary of the Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage and their recent award for Outstanding Service Project for Youth Programs.
