A resolution recognizing the 2020-2021 Goodpasture High School "Cougars" Boys Basketball team and their Class AA State Championship.

WHEREAS, the Goodpasture High School boys basketball team completed a successful regular season of competition by posting an outstanding record of 31-1, culminating with a perfect 9-0 post-season tournament record; and
WHEREAS, on March 6, 2021, the Goodpasture Cougars captured the first basketball championship in school history with a 60-50 win over Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA); and
WHEREAS, the Cougar's senior leader, PJay Smith, led the team in scoring for the season and received the District MVP, Region MVP, and State MVP Awards; and
WHEREAS, the members of this remarkable team are PJay Smith, Cooper Pennington, Chandler Woosley, Josh Williams, Tanner Jones, Tyler Jones, Octavius Henderson, Isaiah West, Jack Carter, Xavier Robinson, Carson Rucker, Seth Moulton, Jackson Moss, Shawn Link, Ty Campbell, Xavier Shegog, Marques Whitmon, Bishop Quarles, Breckman Oakley, Braxton Lawrence, JD Singleton, King Keary, Jayden Jones, Myles Sidney, and JD Mastin;and
WHEREAS, the Coaches are Adam Sonn, Reece Chamberlain, Brian Winders, Ryan Roller, and Ross Welch; and
WHEREAS, the Athletic Trainers are Chris Snoddy, Chelsea Hodges, and Ashlyn Parker; and
WHEREAS, the Team Managers are Ellie Dotson and Emma Singer; and
WHEREAS, the Strength Coaches are JT Rankin, Alex Junior, and LauraLee Gassie; and
WHEREAS, the Team Statistician, Mickey Randolph recorded an amazing year of success as indicated by the 31-1 overall record, and their designations of D2A District 4 Regular Season Champions, D2A District 4 Tournament Champions, D2A Middle Region Tournament Champions, and D2A State Tournament Champions; and
WHEREAS, this basketball program program has produced state runner-up finishes in 1978, 1994, and 1999; and
