A resolution recognizing and honoring Shannon Martin and Katie Agnew for their extraordinary fundraising efforts in support of Metro Nashville Public Schools.

WHEREAS, philanthropist Shannon Martin and attorney Katie Agnew, both parents at Percy Priest Elementary School, identified a need for enhanced multipurpose spaces at their children's school, recognizing the importance of such facilities for physical education, community engagement, and student development; and
WHEREAS, their idea to create a new gymnasium capable of holding full school events at the rebuilt Percy Priest Elementary School quickly expanded to Lakeview Elementary School and Paragon Mills Elementary School, both of which were being renovated or rebuilt by Metro Nashville Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Martin and Katie Agnew were challenged to raise five million dollars to make these multipurpose spaces at all three schools a reality. Through their tireless dedication and in collaboration with MNPS and the PENCIL Foundation, they achieved that fundraising goal in just 67 days; and
WHEREAS, the gymnasium at the new Percy Priest Elementary School opened in July 2025 and will serve as a community hub and set a new standard for MNPS elementary school design in Nashville and Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, these fundraising efforts have been recognized by Metro Nashville Public Schools as having demonstrated the power of public-private partnerships and civic engagement in Nashville and Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to recognize Shannon Martin and Katie Agnew for their philharmonic efforts to improve Metro Nashville Public Schools.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
