A resolution honoring Morgan Price of Fisk University as the first student from a Historically Black College and University to win a national collegiate gymnastics championship.

WHEREAS, Fisk University sophomore Morgan Price won the all-around competition at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championship on April 12, 2024, in West Chester, Pennsylvania; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Price’s victory made her the first student from a Historically Black College or University to win a national collegiate gymnastics competition at any level; and

 

WHEREAS, the Lebanon native enrolled at Fisk and helped launch its gymnastics program after coach Corrine Tarver encouraged her to make history at the institution; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Price earned first-team USA Gymnastics All-American honors during her freshman and sophomore years at Fisk; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Price is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and has received Blue Club AD Honor Status for maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average; and

 

WHEREAS, the 18-year-old recognizes her family, including her mother Marsha Price and her late father Christopher Price, as her inspirations for success; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Price seeks to continue her work at Fisk and serve as a model for aspiring Black gymnasts after graduation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council wishes congratulate and recognize Ms. Price’s historic achievement on behalf of Nashville and Davidson County.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Fisk University National Champion Morgan Price and wishes her continued success.

 

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
