An ordinance providing the honorary street name designation of "J.B. Barker and Estille Burgess Memorial Way" for the entirety of Donelson Station Boulevard.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County accepted a parcel of land between Lebanon Pike and Old Lebanon Pike in Donelson that was donated by John Barker in June 2003; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government created a road on the parcel of land and accepted confirmed the road for use in May 2004; and
WHEREAS, John Barker, the longtime owner of a nearby car dealership, was reportedly given the chance to name the public road and elected to name the street "J.B. Estille Drive" - the initials of his name combined with the name of his grandfather; and
WHEREAS, J.B. Estille Drive kept that name for more than 20 years, and several businesses and establishments were opened along the public road, which abuts into the street connecting to the Donelson station of the WeGo Star; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council passed Ordinance No. BL2024-307 to rename the road as "Donelson Station Boulevard" in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the name of J.B. Estille Drive became instilled with the Donelson community and its namesakes should continue to be recognized in an honorary manner; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 13.08 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides for the designation of honorary street names and signs without amending the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, and without requiring residents and businesses to change their address.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Donelson Station Boulevard between Lebanon Pike and Old Lebanon Pike is hereby designated with the honorary street name of "J.B. Barker and Estille Burgess Memorial Way".
