A resolution to honor the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club on their meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 19 and 20, 2023.

WHEREAS, The Sierra Club, a California non-profit corporation, is the largest conservation organization in the United States with chapters in all 50 states and a membership in excess of 300,000 persons; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors generally meets in Oakland, California, but has chosen to meet in Nashville, Tennessee, for their meeting at the invitation of the Tennessee Chapter; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of Nashville are good stewards of the natural environment and have endeavored to plant 500,000 trees; and
WHEREAS, Nashville has opened thousands of acres to become new park land in the city, and
WHEREAS, Nashville has led the state in recycling opportunities for citizens and protection of the natural environment; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee has factories that build electric cars and trucks and manufactures parts and batteries for the vehicles; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Cooper and the Metropolitan Council have welcomed The Sierra Club into their vibrant city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as welcoming The Sierra Club and its Board of Directors to fully enjoy Music City and to visit often.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to Ben Jealous, Executive Director of the Sierra Club.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee requiring it.
