A resolution approving an Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant application from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Office of Emergency Management, to fund costs related to enhancing security and the resilience of high-risk urban areas by building, sustaining, and improving capabilities to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is accepting applications for an Urban Area Security Initiative grant with an award of $3,943,092.00 with no cash match required to fund costs related to enhancing security and the resilience of high-risk urban areas by building, sustaining, and improving capabilities to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism; and,
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,
WHEREAS, the Homeland Security Grant Program includes provisions related to immigration enforcement and border security. Because such activities are the purview of the federal government, the Metropolitan Government will not participate in them. The Office of Emergency Management would return any such funds allocated for this category to the State of Tennessee; and,
WHEREAS, this resolution approves the application for a grant award. Any grant award based on this application would also be subject to approval by the Metropolitan Council; and,
WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
