A resolution recognizing the Metropolitan Government for being named 2024 Government Recycler of the Year by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition.

WHEREAS, on August 29, 2024, the Tennessee Recycling Coalition announced that the Metropolitan Government received the organization’s Government Recycler of the Year award; and

 

WHEREAS, the organization particularly recognized Metro Waste Services for its introduction of its Food Scraps Pickup Pilot in 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, the pilot program provides free curbside composting services to 750 Nashville households; and

 

WHEREAS, through the program, more than 42 tons of food scraps have been collected and an anticipated 115 tons of food waste are expected to be diverted from landfills by the end of the pilot program’s first year; and

 

WHEREAS, the Food Scraps Pickup Pilot supports the Metropolitan Government’s Zero Waste Master Plan, which aims to divert 90 percent of all waste from landfills; and

 

WHEREAS, this award is a worthy honor for the work that Metro Waste Services continues to do to reduce waste in Nashville and Davidson County; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council congratulate Metro Waste Services for its recognition as the 2024 Government Recycler of the Year and further recognize Metro Waste Services for the pilot program and its efforts to create a more sustainable Nashville and Davidson County.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the Metropolitan Government and Metro Waste Services for its recognition as 2024 Government Recycler of the Year by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition.

 

Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
