A resolution appropriating a total of $140,000 from the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Department of Health to Research Foundation of The City University of New York o/b/o/ National Network of Safe Communities (NNSC), ("Recipient") for the provision of strategic advising to key Nashville partners and stakeholders - including law enforcement, service providers, and community leaders - to implement NNSC's Group Violence Intervention.

WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in accordance with the guidelines of the Metropolitan Government; and,
WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,
WHEREAS, NNSC is a research center at City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a nonprofit organization. The NNSC works with communities to reduce violence, minimize arrest and incarceration, and increase trust between law enforcement and the public. Working in partnership with cities around the country the NNSC provides advice on implementing evidence-based violence reduction strategies. Additionally, the NNSC provides guidance on how to build trust between law enforcement and the communities it serves, facilitates connections between practitioners within and across jurisdictions, and serves as a resource for knowledge about violence prevention and reduction strategies; and,
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Department of Health, wishes to appropriate funding and contract with NNSC for the provision of strategic advising to key Nashville partners and stakeholders - including law enforcement, service providers, and community leaders - to implement NNSC's G...
