An ordinance providing the honorary street name designation of "Billy Sherrill Way" for a portion of 18th Ave S.

WHEREAS, Billy Sherrill was born November 5, 1936 in Phil Campbell, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Sherrill was a legendary producer on Music Row from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, discovering and making a star out of Tammy Wynette, and reviving the career of George Jones; and
WHEREAS, as Columbia/Epic Vice-President and Executive Producer, he also produced Charlie Rich, David Houston, Tanya Tucker, Barbara Mandrell, Janie Fricke, Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Duncan, Lacy J. Dalton, Barbara Fairchild, Johnny Rodriguez, Andy Williams, Bobby Vinton, Elvis Costello, Marty Robbins, David Allen Coe, Emmy Lou Harris, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, The Staple Singers, Andy Griffith and Jim Nabors; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being a producer, he was a musician and arranger. He also co-wrote many of the hits he produced including "Stand by Your Man" and "The Most Beautiful Girl"; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Mr. Sherrill's many contributions to Nashville, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council provide an honorary street name designation of "Billy Sherrill Way" for a portion of 18th Ave S; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 13.08 of the Metropolitan Code provides for the designation of honorary street names and signs without amending the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, and without requiring residents and businesses to change their address.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That 18th Ave S between Edgehill Ave and Grand Ave is hereby designated with the honorary street name of "Billy Sherrill Way".
Section 2. This honorary street designation shall not require residents located on 18 Ave S to change their street address.
