An ordinance providing the honorary street name designation of "Rev. Elton Lee Waller Blvd" for a portion of 2nd Ave S.

WHEREAS, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church has been a beacon of light in South Nashville for over one hundred years; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Elton Lee Waller pastored Shiloh for 36 years and left a legacy that has inspired the South Nashville neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Waller made an impact on his church and the surrounding neighborhood, making various improvements to the church building, creating out-reach programs to feed the hungry, appointing the first women to leadership positions in the church, as well as starting programs to help children within the church and in the community; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Waller made an indelible mark on Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the Nashville community before his death on October 2, 2017; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Pastor Waller's contribution to the Nashville community, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council provide an honorary street name designation of "Rev. Elton Lee Waller Blvd" for a portion of 2nd Ave S; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 13.08 of the Metropolitan Code provides for the designation of honorary street names and signs without amending the Official Street and Alley Acceptance and Maintenance Map for The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, and without requiring residents and businesses to change their address.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That 2nd Ave S between Chestnut Street and Lafayette Street is hereby designated with the honorary street name of "Rev. Elton Lee Waller Blvd".
Section 2. This honorary street designation shall not require residents located on 2nd Ave S to change their street address.
