A resolution recognizing September 16 through 23, 2025, as Bisexual Awareness Week and recognizing September 23, 2025, as Celebrate Bisexuality Day.

WHEREAS, Bisexual Awareness Week was co-founded by GLAAD and BiNet USA to educate people on the challenges faced by the bisexual community and to set policies to support bisexual acceptance and social integration; and
WHEREAS, the event is an extension of Celebrate Bisexuality Day, which was first recognized in 1999 to celebrate bisexual people who confront both invisibility and stigma; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 4.4 percent of all Americans identify as bisexual, more than the estimated number of gay, lesbian, and transgender Americans combined; and
WHEREAS, unofficial bisexual pride days have been held across the country for decades, allowing bisexual Americans to affirm and empower their community and raise awareness of the distinct issues and disparities that they face; and
WHEREAS, these two events provide avenues for bisexual Nashvillians to have their sexuality recognized and celebrated in unique ways. Tennessee Equality Project will host an event on Celebrate Bisexuality Day on September 23, 2025; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to recognize September 16 through 23, 2025, as Bisexual Awareness Week and to recognize September 23, 2025, as Celebrate Bisexuality Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing September 16 through 23, 2025, as Bisexual Awareness Week and recognizing September 23, 2025, as Celebrate Bisexuality Day.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
