A resolution approving the donation of foam packaging collection, densifying, and repurposing equipment and materials from Foam Cycle LLC to the Department of Waste Services.

WHEREAS, Foam Cycle LLC, as set forth in the donation letter attached hereto and incorporated herein, wishes to donate to a foam packaging collection, densifying, and repurposing system and related equipment and materials valued at $143,120 to be placed at a recycling drop-off center to allow Davidson County residents to drop off their foam packaging waste, which consists of products made from polystyrene plastic such as coolers, TVs, electronics, and furniture protective packaging, as well as food service foam consisting of cups, plates, egg cartons and takeout clamshells; and,
WHEREAS, this donation includes delivery and on-site training for Foam Cycle LLC’s patented container system, three 40-yard roll-off recycling containers, two extra foam collection bins, and one twelve-foot trailer. All donated equipment includes a one-year limited warranty from Foam Cycle LLC; and,
WHEREAS, this donation facilitates significant landfill diversion of foam packaging waste by densifying and reducing the size of foam at a ratio of 90-to-1 and reusing the residual material in building materials like insulation, roof tiles, concrete mix, consumer goods like picture frames, hangers, furniture, and carpet, and new packaging; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to Metropolitan Code of Laws 5.04.120.B, donations to departments exceeding $7,500 in value may be accepted upon approval of the Metropolitan Council by resolution; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this donation be accepted.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the donation of foam packaging collection, densifying, and repurposing equipment and materials, valued at $143,120, from the Foam Cycle LLC to the Department of Waste Services, pursuant to the donation letter attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.
Section 2. That the Department of Waste Services is hereby authorized to accept this donation for its use and benefit.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
