An ordinance authorizing the renaming of Alley #569 to “Clowder Alley” and Alley #535 to “Catamount Alley”. (Proposal Number 2025M-005SR-001).

WHEREAS, the Department of Emergency Communications has requested the street renaming; and,

WHEREAS, a developer is building new townhomes with alley access only; and,

WHEREAS, renaming would alleviate possible issues regarding emergency services’ ability to locate units; and,

WHEREAS, the proposed request to rename this roadway has been submitted to and approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and other relevant agencies of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, in accordance with Metropolitan Code of Laws § 13.08.015.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Geographic Information Systems Street and Alley Centerline Layer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, be and is hereby amended, as follows:

Alley #569, from Morrison Street to 11th Avenue North, shall be named “Clowder Alley” and Alley #535, from Jackson Street to Alley #569, shall be named “Catamount Alley”, as depicted on the maps attached hereto and incorporated by reference.

Section 2.                      The Director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure be and hereby is authorized and directed, upon the enactment and approval of this ordinance, to cause said change to be made on said map as set out in Section 1 of this ordinance, and to make notation thereon of reference to the date of passage and approval of this amendatory ordinance.

Section 3.        Amendments to this legislation may be approved by resolution.

Section 4.                       This ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This ordinance authorizes the renaming of Alley #569 to “Clowder Alley” and Alley #535 to “Catamount Alley”. A developer is building new townhomes with alley access only, renaming would alleviate possible issues with emergency services’ ability to locate units. These street renamings were requested by the Department of Emergency Communications.

 

Per section 18.08.015 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws, the Metropolitan Council cannot take action on second reading of the ordinance until receiving a recommendation from the Emergency Communications District Board and a written report regarding any historical significance of the street name from the Historical Commission.

 

The legislation was approved at the January 22, 2026, meeting of the Emergency Communications District Board. A copy of the report from the Historical Commission has been submitted to the Metropolitan Clerk’s Office.

 

This proposal has been approved by the Planning Commission.
