An ordinance amending section 2.154.010.B of the Metropolitan Code of Laws by changing the Council member representation on the Greenway and Open Space Commission.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council adopted Ordinance No. O91-13, on November 19, 1991, establishing a Greenway and Open Space Commission which was to be composed of, among other members, two members of the Parks, Library, Recreation and Auditorium Committee and one at-large member; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council adopted Ordinance No. O92-153, on February 18, 1992, amending Ordinance No. O91-13 by adding an additional member from the Parks, Library, Recreation and Auditorium Committee bringing the total Council member representation to four; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council adopted Ordinance No. BL2024-582, on November 19, 2024, which, among other things, amended the Greenway and Open Space Commission membership provision to comply with the Metropolitan Charter such that the Council members selected by the Arts, Parks, Libraries, and Entertainment Committee to serve on the commission would be non-voting members; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides for the Greenway and Open Space Commission to have nineteen members, eleven of which are non-voting members; and of the non-voting members six are Metro employees and four are Council members; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council finds that it is fitting, proper, and sufficient for the Council representation on the Greenway and Open Space Commission to be reduced to two members.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AN DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Section 2.154.010.B of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is hereby deleted in its entirety and replaced with the following:
B. Two members of the metropolitan council, one of whom serve on the arts, parks, libraries, and entertainment committee of the council, or a successor committee to which greenway legislation is referred, and selected by that committee, and one other at-large council member selected by the vice mayor. Such council members selected shall be non-voting members who serve for a term not to exceed two years, which terms shall begin within sixty days after council elections, and sixty days after the middle of the council term;
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
