WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is accepting applications for a Port Security Grant with an award of $749,467.50 with a required cash match of $249,822.50 for equipment to enhance current land based and maritime response capabilities; and,
WHEREAS, the Office of Emergency Management is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,
WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Port Security grant application of the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Office of Emergency Management, for equipment to enhance current land based and maritime response capabilities, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Office of Emergency Management is authorized to submit said grant application to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This would include a new boat with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) capabilities for the Nashville Fire Department, funding for a helicopter aquatic rescue team project, and a maritime rescue task force.
