body

WHEREAS, Katrina “Trina” Frierson founded in Mending Hearts in 2004. After years of struggling with addiction, Trina experienced life on the streets, periods of homelessness, incarceration, and losing custody of her children. She received the support she needed to establish and maintain her sobriety to regain her life. To pay it forward, Trina felt led to serve women in similar situations; and

WHEREAS, Trina saw the need for a long-term program that addressed addiction and offered life-changing support, therapy, and job skills that are crucial to life-long recovery; and

WHEREAS, in its infancy, Mending Hearts owned one home and treated seven women. The program has now grown to 15 homes and has served over 5,400 women, becoming a critical resource for treating women in Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Mending Hearts’ mission is to provide shelter, hope, and healing to women who are homeless due to addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Mending Hearts. A celebration of this milestone will take place at the 20th Annual Rise Breakfast on September 26; and

WHEREAS, the Rise Breakfast serves as Mending Heart’s annual fundraising event, with all proceeds benefitting the nearly 450 women served by the organization each year; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mending Hearts for its 20 years of service to helping women reclaim their lives from addiction and co-occurring mental health concerns.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
