A resolution requesting the creation of a taskforce as described herein to initiate a study to determine the five most probable locations for potential waste transfer stations within the county to be completed no later than July 31, 2023.

WHEREAS, there are currently three privately run waste transfer stations operating within Davidson County that handle all refuse generated within; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing growth of Nashville and Davidson County has led to a general increase in the amount of refuse being generated; and
WHEREAS, as the county continues to grow, additional waste transfer stations may be necessary to process the additional refuse generated; and
WHEREAS, the location of these potential additional waste transfer stations may be detrimental to the health and quality of life of the surrounding neighbors; and
WHEREAS, a study to understand the most probable locations of future waste transfer stations within the county will be beneficial to the Metropolitan Council and the Special Solid Waste and Recycling Commission as both entities continue to effectuate the policies and goals of the Solid Waste Master Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby requests the Metropolitan Planning Department, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, and the Waste Services division of Metro Water Services to form a taskforce for the purpose of initiating a study to determine the five most probable locations for potential waste transfer stations within the county; this study is to be completed no later than July 31, 2023.
Section 2. Upon completion of the above said study, the taskforce shall present their findings to the Metropolitan Council and the Special Solid Waste and Recycling Commission.
Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Director of the Metropolitan Planning Department, the Director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, and the Director of Metro Water Services.
Section 4. Be it further enacted, that this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
