A resolution requesting that the Tennessee General Assembly authorize the honorary naming of a portion of Nolensville Pike as “Commander Anthony McClain Memorial Highway.”

WHEREAS, Anthony McClain Sr. served as a commander of Metro Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”) in the North Precinct; and

WHEREAS, Commander McClain served in the United States Air Force. After his active enlistment, he served in Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve while attending Tennessee State University, his beloved alma mater, where he graduated with honors with a Criminal Justice degree; and

WHEREAS, Commander McClain joined MNPD in 1997 as a Patrol Officer in Central Precinct. Commander McClain had a varied career with MNPD, servicing as a Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Specialized Investigations Division’s Narcotics Unit Supervisor, Captain of the Special Victims Division, and Commander of the North Precinct; and

WHEREAS, in his role as commander of the North Precinct, Commander McClain also worked with Tennessee State University to strategize how to implement community-oriented policing; and

WHEREAS, Commander McClain was known for his exuberance and wisdom, making it a point to immerse himself in the community to resolve problems and make a difference; and

WHEREAS, beyond his work with MNPD, Commander McClain was also deeply involved with Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a part of the security team ministry and the church’s historical ministry; and

WHEREAS, throughout his life, Commander McClain devotion to service was clear. He was a dedicated father, husband, man of faith, community leader, and civil servant; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to honor Commander Anthony McClain Sr.’s contributions to Nashville and Davidson County, by requesting that the State of Tennessee authorize the naming of a section of Nolensville Pike south of Old Hickory Boulevard and north of Brentwood Highlands Drive as “Commander Anthony McClain Memorial Highway.”

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council requests that the State of Tennessee as expressing support for the Tennessee General Assembly legislation for an honorary renaming of a portion of Nolensville Pike as “Commander Anthony McClain Memorial Highway.”

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
