WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the State of Tennessee, Department of Transportation seeks to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to install separated bike lanes on Union Street from 2nd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North; Woodland Street from 1st Avenue North to South 11th Street; South 5th Street from Woodland Street to Davidson Street; South 10th Street from Woodland Street to Sevier Street; Fed. No. STP-M-9312(122), State Project No. 19LPLM-F3-166, PIN 128886.00; and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to the terms of the agreement attached hereto, the total cost estimate of the project is $1,614,375.00, 80% of which will be funded by the federal government, and 20% of which will be funded locally, subject to the availability of funding from Metro; and,

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 12-9-104(a)(2)(b), authorizes The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County to enter into intergovernmental agreements with the State of Tennessee by resolution; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the interest of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County that this intergovernmental agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Intergovernmental Agreement with TDOT, attached hereto as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by reference, is hereby approved, and that the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2.                      That the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County’s participation is subject to the availability of funds as determined by the Department of Finance.

Section 3.                       Any amendments, renewals, or extension of the terms of the agreement may be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council.

Section 4.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution approves an intergovernmental agreement between the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works for the acceptance of work in connection with the installation of separated bike lanes on portions of Union Street, Woodland Street, South 5th Street, and South 10th Street.

 

Under the terms of the agreement, the total cost estimate is $1,614,375. The federal government will fund 80% of the project ($1,291,500) and Metro will fund 20% of the project ($322,875). The date of completion for this project is October 31, 2025. The agreement funds the East Nashville Backbones project to install separate bike lanes on Union Street from 2nd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North; Woodland Street from 1st Avenue North to South 11th Street; South 5th Street from Woodland Street to Davidson Street; and South 10th Street from Woodland Street to Sevier Street.

 

Under state law, Metro may approve intergovernmental agreements by resolution.
