A resolution appropriating a total of $1,000,000.00 from a certain account of the Community Safety Fund for a grant to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office has recommended that $1,000,000.00 of the funds appropriated for community safety grants in the Budget Ordinance (Substitute BL2022-1248), be distributed to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee; and,

WHEREAS, the grant funds will be utilized for the provision of violence interruption services; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that these funds be appropriated to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     There is hereby appropriated $1,000,000.00 from Fund No. 30164 to fund a grant to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee to be used to provide violence interruption services.

Section 2.                     The grant contract between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the Urban League of Middle Tennessee, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 3.                     That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution appropriates $1,000,000 from the Community Safety Fund for a grant to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee. The Mayor’s Office has recommended that $1,000,000 of the funds appropriated for community safety grants in the operating budget ordinance, Substitute Ordinance No. BL2022-1248, be distributed to the Urban League of Middle Tennessee for the provision of violence interruption services.

 

Pursuant to the terms of the agreement, the Urban League of Middle Tennessee will employ and supervise case managers who will assist the Mayor’s Office in implementing a Group Violence Intervention program in Nashville. The case managers will provide reports to the Metro Nashville Health Department.

 

The term of the contract begins March 7, 2023 and ends March 6, 2025.
