title
A resolution honoring over 20 years of partnership between the Metropolitan Government and Constellation Energy Resources in the development and operation of the District Energy System facility on Peabody Street.
body
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government opened a new District Energy System (“DES”) facility on Peabody Street in December 2003; and
WHEREAS, the building replaced an aging waste-to-energy thermal transfer facility and was called “a true catalyst for downtown economic development” by then-Mayor Bill Purcell; and
WHEREAS, the DES facility has been operated by Constellation Energy Resources from its opening more than 20 years ago until the present day; and
WHEREAS, DES provides heating and cooling through underground pipes to at least 42 buildings in downtown Nashville by producing steam and chilled water through natural gas and electricity; and
WHEREAS, the facility has provided up of 23,400 tons of cooling for air conditioning and 260,000 pounds of steam an hour for heating and hot water; and
WHEREAS, the DES system was projected to save Nashville and Davidson County approximately $66,900,000 through more efficient operations, less space needed for housing boilers and chillers, and the purchase of fuel at a lower rate; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council finds it fitting and proper to recognize the workers at the DES and the two-decade partnership between the Metropolitan Government and Constellation Energy Resources in the system’s operation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing over twenty years of partnership between the Metropolitan Government and Constellation Energy Resources in the operation of the District Energy System facility.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
