An ordinance authorizing the naming of Unnumbered Alley right-of-way, from Benton Avenue to Craighead Street, as “Coliseum Way”. (Proposal Number 2024M-001SR-001).

WHEREAS, the request for the alley naming has been requested by Laura Womack, Executive Director, The Fairgrounds Nashville; and,
WHEREAS, naming the Unnumbered Alley as “Coliseum Way” honors the history of the Fairgrounds and aligns with the Fairgrounds’ vision for the area; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed request to name this alley has been submitted to and approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and other relevant agencies of the Metropolitan Government, in accordance with Metropolitan Code of Laws Section 13.08.015; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Unnumbered Alley right-of-way, from Benton Avenue to Craighead Street, as depicted on the map attached to this ordinance, shall be named “Coliseum Way”, and that such naming is hereby approved.
Section 2. That the Director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure be and hereby is authorized and directed, upon the enactment and approval of this ordinance, to cause said change to be made on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Street and Alley Centerline Layer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, and to make notation thereon of reference to the date of passage and approval of this amendatory ordinance.
Section 3. Amendments to this legislation may be approved by resolution.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This ordinance names an unnumbered alley right of way from Benton Avenue to Craighead Street as “Coliseum Way”. The road will be aligned and provide access to the speedway and the apartment complex under construction at The Fairgrounds Nashville. This request was made by Laura Womack on behalf of The Fairgrounds Nashville.
This proposal has been approved by the Planning Commission and the Emergency Communications District Board. A written report regarding any historical significance of the street name was also provided by the Historical Commission.
