A resolution recognizing Russ Pulley on the occasion of his retirement as a National Collegiate Athletics Association football official.

WHEREAS, after 25 years of service as an official for the National Collegiate Athletics Association (“NCAA”) football, Russ Pulley has retired; and

WHEREAS, during his time as an official, he served as the North Central Football Official’s Association President, the Sun Belt Football Official’s Association President, and a member of the Southeastern Conference Football Official’s Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pulley is known not only for his services as an NCAA football official, but for his public service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pulley started his career in public services as a firefighters and paramedic for the Chesapeake, Virginia Fire Department. He soon turned to law enforcement, beginning as a police officer with the Virginia Beach, Virginia Police Department and then joining the Virginia State Police as a trooper; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Christopher Newport University with a bachelor’s of science in governmental administration, Mr. Pulley then became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) after graduation, where he spent over 17 years; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the FBI, Mr. Pulley served as a court officer for the U.S. District Court in Nashville and as an investigator for the U.S. Department of Labor for over a decade; and

WHEREAS, after his career in public service, Mr. Pulley decided to run for the Metropolitan Council. In August 2015, he was elected as District 25 Council Member and was reelected in August 2019; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong learner, Mr. Pulley is currently enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Master of Public Administration program and is anticipated to graduate this spring; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his long career in public service, Mr. Pulley has also served as a Scoutmaster and Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, PTSA President of Hillsboro High School, vice president of the Battlemont Neighborhood Association, President and baseball coach at McCabe Little League, YMCA soccer, baseball, and basketball coach, West End Middle School 5^th and 6^th Grade basketball coach, and several other activities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pulley is also a devoted father to sons G.R. Pulley and Garland Pulley; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Pulley on his retirement as an NCAA football official.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Russ Pulley on the occasion of his retirement as a National Collegiate Athletics Association football official after 25 years of service and for his lifelong dedication to public service.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
