Analysis

On March 5, 2024, a Metro Waste Services (“MWS”) driver changed lanes on Interstate 24 West while trying to exit the interstate. The MWS driver struck the left side of a vehicle driven by Jackie Taylor as she was merging onto the interstate from the Spring Street ramp. The vehicle was damaged from the front door to the rear quarter panel and deemed a total loss.

The Department of Law recommends the settlement of the property damage claim of Farm Bureau Insurance, as subrogee of Jackie Taylor, for $17,824.76.

Disciplinary action against the MWS employee involved is pending.

Fiscal Note: The total settlement amount is $17,827.76. This settlement would be the 4th payment from the Self-Insured Liability Fund in FY25 for a cumulative total of $221,211. The fund balance would be $18,827,041 after this payment.
