title

A resolution recognizing Musicians on Call for its 25 years of service.

body

WHEREAS, Musicians on Call, a non-profit based in Nashville, has spent the past 25 years delivering the healing power of music to those sick and hospitalized in hospitals across the country; and

WHEREAS, the organization was first founded in 1999 by Michael Solomon and Vivek Tiwary as they reflected on the deaths of their loved ones after lengthy hospital stays; and

WHEREAS, the two men founded the organization after seeing a concert for patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, seeing the inspiration of the music, yet hearing a nurse say that those who may need the music the most could not leave their hospital rooms to hear it; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Solomon and Mr. Tiwary arranged for their musician clients and friends to provide similar concerts in hospitals. Artists were eventually asked to sing to patients at their bedsides, where they made magical connections with the patients as they tapped their feet, nodded their heads, and began to smile in their rooms; and

WHEREAS, Musicians on Call was then founded to bring that same inspiring experience to the hospital patients everywhere; and

WHEREAS, in the last 25 years, Musicians on Call has brought music to more than 1,000,000 patients in all 50 states; and

WHEREAS, these patients have heard from the likes of Keith Urban, Garth Brooks, Kelsea Ballerini, Darius Rucker, Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Clarkson, and Reba McEntire; and

WHEREAS, Musicians on Call now offers various programs to support those in need that consist of bedside and virtual performances, access to streaming “music pharmacies”, and songwriting education to teach patients about writing and recording original music as a way to channel their emotions; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Metropolitan Council to honor Musicians on Call for its quarter century of work to provide music and its magic to hospital patients in greatest need in Nashville and across the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Musicians on Call for its 25 years of service to Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
