WHEREAS, Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11, is a day to honor and thank all military veterans who have selflessly served our nation in times of war and peace, dedicating their lives to the protection and preservation of our freedom and democracy; and

 

WHEREAS, the brave men and women of our armed forces have faced great challenges, made tremendous sacrifices, and demonstrated unwavering courage and dedication in the defense of our country; and

 

WHEREAS, Nashville and Davidson County are home to thousands of veterans, who have served in every branch of the military and in every conflict, both at home and abroad; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County recognizes the importance of supporting veterans and their families, and is committed to ensuring that they receive the care, resources, and opportunities they so richly deserve; and

 

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the residents of Nashville and Davidson County pause to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families, and to reflect on the enduring legacy of their service; and

 

WHEREAS, we are reminded of the freedoms we enjoy today because of the valiant efforts of those who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces, and we pledge to never forget their contributions.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

 

Section 1: That the Metropolitan Council hereby recognizes and honors the veterans of Nashville and Davidson County on the occasion of Veterans Day, and expresses deep appreciation for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation.

 

Section 2: That the Metropolitan Council further encourages all residents to observe Veterans Day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that honor our veterans and reflect upon their invaluable contributions to our community and country.

 

Section 3: That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to local veterans’ organizations and to ensure its inclusion in the permanent records of the Metropolitan Government.

 

Section 4: This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
